Dear friends,
I have made the very difficult decision to step down as President of the club. For many months I have hoped that, “next week I can get back to campaigning.” “Next week I can do some phone banking.” Next week we can go out for dinner.” “Next week, next week, next week.” I realize that now that it could be next year.
As many of you know, over the last year, Marc and I have continued to face a multitude of health issues, mostly due to his rare, Neuroendocrine cancer. Over these last months, we have dealt with surprise hospital bills, ridiculous out of pocket expenses, including time consuming but some successful wins. All of these paling in comparison to watching Marc’s health deteriorate along the way. It is challenging at best to stay positive and we hang on each "baby step" to provide us with hope and some optimism.
Marc recently had the first treatment of interventional radiology. It's a high tech cancer treatment where they go into the body through the groin and administer the medication with some radiation, directly to the tumors. It's much like an angiogram, which is considered non invasive, although it felt pretty invasive and resulted in another night in the hospital. This is done in 3 parts. The next one will be done on October 1, followed by another around 4 weeks later.
As of now, Marc has been eating better, but still too little. Marc has gotten stronger, but still extremely weak. He is doing home PT. He needs lots of help and that’s what I am committed to. As you can imagine, I'm beyond tired, I have a knee waiting for a replacement that has already been postponed and now an inflamed shoulder reinjured by helping Marc up from a fall. Yes, there have been plenty of those too.
Being your President has been a great honor. The club is flourishing and I am proud of what we have accomplished. We are fortunate to have a strong Leadership Team! It’s been rewarding and fun. My Harris/Walz 2024 flag is flying proudly and my heart remains for a Blue Wave. I am grateful for this experience and more for YOU and the incredible people I have met along the way! Please feel free to stay in touch and know “I will be back!!”
With love,
Optimistically,
Go Kamala!,
Cancer Sucks!
